Description

The Salamander is Le Maitre’s newest canister flame effect, producing spectacular flame columns or bursts in lightning fast chases.

The Salamander’s small footprint allows single units to easily be coupled together collectively in a 4-up configuration to produce coloured or natural flames ranging in height from 4m to 6m / 10′ to 20′. The visual effect is truly stunning.

Canister-based fuels offer an ideal solution for anyone wanting to create a propane-style flame without the headaches. They eliminate the need for inconvenient external propane tanks, trailing pipes and multiple valves, enabling quick set-up at a fraction of the cost. A single fuel canister will provide up to 30 seconds of continuous flame or almost 50 short bursts. Colours currently available are natural, red and green.

The design eliminates internal valves and accumulators, minimising the chance of the system becoming blocked or leaking. It is this which allows the Salamander to safely use coloured canister-based fuels without the risks usually associated with them. In addition, safe use of ethanol/methanol based canisters makes the Salamander ideal for locations or venues where propane/butane is not an option.

The Salamander is controlled by 2 DMX channels that can be individually addressed. It also incorporates a number of safety features, including a tilt sensor and ignitor monitoring.

Operational Guidance

• Salamander is for indoor use only or environments with equivalent conditions.
• Operate vertically only, securely fixed, and protected from interference, impact, and vibration.
• Install or reposition only when cool and fully disconnected from mains and data.
• Change canisters only when powered down, the HSI is cold, no ignition sources are present, and after confirming no residual fluid is burning or present.
• Maintain required safety distances: This includes performance area, and surrounding flammable objects.
  • Horizontal radius: 2 metres.
  • Vertical safety height: 8 metres for a single unit or 2 units coupled in a single location.
  • Vertical safety height: 10 metres if three or more units are coupled in a single location.
• Conduct full risk assessments before use and ensure emergency procedures, trained personnel, fire extinguishers, and first aid are available.
• All operations must be tested and rehearsed beforehand.
• Ensure the machine can be shut down immediately; an Emergency Stop on the mains supply is recommended.
• Use only Le Maitre Chameleon Flame Fuel or Le Maitre Salamander Flame Fuel. Use of alternate fuels might lead to unexpected behaviour.
• Do not live‑wire DMX—avoid plugging/unplugging DMX while data is being transmitted.
• If the Salamander fails to fire, shut it down immediately and allow it to cool before investigating.
• The Salamander is designed for short bursts only, with a maximum duration of 5 seconds.
